TREATMENT THERAPIES (Pono)
Pono is the principle of responsibility, of choosing the right thing, doing the right thing, and having the right relationship. It is what we agree to do when we accept the care of an animal.
We take responsibility for the total environment we provide, physical, emotional, and energetic.
We take responsibility for the medical care we provide, and our decisions and evaluation of the outcome of that care.
So many wonderful things are possible from our western medical developments, but the power of those treatments can cause side effects, pain, and suffering if used inappropriately.
At KVC we use Western medicine in life threatening situations, to control acute pain, and to replace lost fluids and blood, but we move quickly to the energy moving and restoring medicines of traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine and homeopathic remedies.
We respect the life force within each animal, and are advocates for their well being and relief from suffering above all else.
ENERGY THERAPIES
We all know that the body operates as a unit, and that illness in one part is experienced in the entire body.
When you have a cold, it’s not just your nose that suffers! The congestion and stagnation is felt everywhere, even emotionally. The medications are felt everywhere as well.
Doesn’t it make sense to look at the illness as a whole from the beginning?
TCVM and homeopathy are medical systems that do just that, looking at the energy pattern of the illness as well as the affected organ.
Whether an individual is cold or hot, timid or irritable, eats like a wolf or picks like a bird, all these are indications of how the whole body is doing, and clues to what the whole body needs to get well.
These therapies do not consider the disease to be gone when the symptom is gone. Rather, through careful observation of the emotional and physical appearance and the behaviors considered normal and balanced for the species, the diagnosis of restored health is made.
ACUPUNCTURE AND HERBS (Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine)
TCVM relies on appearance, odors, sounds, pulses, and tongue to determine health.
Life is a balance between the two great energy principles of Yin and Yang, contracting and moving, building and expanding, cooling and warming, moistening and drying, night and day.
Each individual has a balance in harmony with their personality and body type, and our goal is to help by using acupuncture treatment, herbs, and food therapy to restore that balance.
For animals that are wary of needles, laser acupuncture achieves a similar effect.
HOMEOPATHY
Homeopathy relies on appearance, emotions, preferences and peculiarities to evaluate and treat health.
Through each of them, a pattern of illness is recognized and a restoration of balance is achieved.
Homeopathic remedies are special preparations of minerals, plants, and some animal products that “retune” the vital energy to a balanced healthy state.
Many immune problems respond particularly well to homeopathic treatment.
PAIN TRACE
A vital question for our aging pets is the amount of pain they are experiencing.
Most of us are willing to accept the slowing of life’s pace, if it is not due to a painful condition.
Since 2007 we have been using a new technology that measures the amount of sympathetic nervous system stimulation (chronic pain) and the parasympathetic nervous tone (pain free) to determine the chronic pain level experienced by pets.
We use this device to monitor the comfort of our patients and the response to therapy.
Q 1000 LASER THERAPY
The Q 1000 laser is one of the most effective therapeutic lasers available.
It reduces acute and chronic inflammation, effects deep healing of damaged joints, and can “recharge” the bodily energy reserves through focused, penetrating light therapy.
